This one is helpful as part of my prevention for cervicogenic headaches when I feel the areas starting up. I recommend this, and David's 9 minute Gentle Yoga for the Neck class if you need a shorter one.

Hello! This was wonderful! Can someone tell me with years of neck stress, pain and tightness how long I will have to do this to see real improvement? Thanks so much! I do feel better after just the one class.

Hi Peggy. Thanks for the feedback! The answer is that no one can really know. However, I can give you advice on how to speed up the recovery process. Typically chronic neck tension is caused by a combination of nervous system overactivity and posture. Do your best to position your head so that it is balance nicely with the center of the ear in line with the center of the shoulder. You can take a picture of yourself in the mirror at a side profile to see this. When correcting the positioning, try to 'release' your head up rather than 'pushing it up'. It's all about releasing the tight muscles. Secondly, do as much relaxation as you can for your neck - and your whole body. We have a lot of guided meditations that can help you with this. The goal is to turn down the level of your nervous system - create calmness in your mind and softness in your body.
